I like that version of “Little Drummer Boy” too. I heard “The Christmas Shoes” for the first time this year and I thought how sweet, yet how totally depressing. Can’t there be one holiday we don’t try to drag people down with? My mom died 7 days before Christmas in 1982, so I know what it’s like. Do we have to smack people with that much reality in a song?

Okay, stepping off my soapbox now. :) “O Holy Night” has always been one of my favorites. I really like it sung in French. “Mary Did You Know?” is another nice one. The Von Trapp Children released a CD a few years ago titled, “Snow.” It has a lot of great music on it. I highly recommend it.

Oh I love “O Holy Night” too!! Such a simple and beautiful melody! I think you hit the nail on the head with “The Christmas Shoes.” The sentimentality of it is fine, but it’s really the huge bummer of it all that gets me. I’ll take Jingle Bells or even Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” any day of the week.

And I hadn’t heard about the Von Trapp Children CD! How cool! My family are fans of The Sound of Music, so I’ll definitely have to check that one out.

For a joke, you can go wrong with “Twelve Days of Christmas.” http://youtu.be/0hFb-vepuM8
