So for today’s post for the letter “C,” I’d like to bring up the topic of children’s books. Also I thought it was interesting that so many children’s books classics were included in Day 2′s list of banned books.
I have a seven year old right now and she loves reading. We read together before bed time and lately she’s taken up the habit of reading more after I tuck her in. Right now she’s into “Harry Potter” (speaking of banned books) and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
I’d read the Harry Potter series when they came out and re-reading them has been a lot of fun. Some other books my daughter has enjoyed are the “Junie B. Jones” books by Barbara Park and “The Magic Treehouse” series by Mary Pope Osborne. Some other authors she likes are Jan Brett and Shel Silverstein and of course Dr. Seuss.
It’s been a lot of fun to rediscover some of my favorites as a kid and see what new books and authors are out for children now.
What were some of your favs as a kid? If you read children’s books now (whether you have kids or not
) what are some of the ones you or your kids like?

I was obsessed with Babysitter’s club for awhile. Then I fell in love with absolutely normal chaos. I liked books that resembled diaries.

Great Post, My favorites when I was young were The Nancy Drew books, then there were books about student nurses, don’t even remember the titles. I still love Nancy Drew, Junie B Jones, The Magic Treehouse books, and The Babysitter’s club are still on my reading list because my grand-daughter is 8 and we compare notes. Gotta love that.
Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys were some of my favorites growing up. It’s fun, as much as I love the Little House and Anne of Green Gables books now, I couldn’t get into them as a kid.
If she’s reading HP at 7, what the heck will she be reading in high school, War and Peace?
Our little one is also reading above her grade level, though Junie B. is big in our house too.
Reading to your kids is such a joy. I love reading Dr. Seuss. His rhymes are such silly fun, and they flow so nicely they are effortless to read. We’re big Seuss fans in this house.
I liked the Boxcar Children series. I thought it was cool to live in a boxcar and have adventures. I also loved Where the Red Fern Grows and still cry at the sad parts. I also liked reading about famous people like Amelia Earhart and Babe Didrikson! And of course Seuss.
I have enjoyed some young adult fiction these days—The Hunger Games trilogy was very enjoyable and Harry Potter of course.
Original Fairy Tales (not the Disneyfied ones) are favorites at my house.
We like Maurice Sendak’s Illustrations in Where the Wild Things are and in a copy of The Nutcracker we have.
Winnie the Pooh and Beatrix Potter’s books – Katie owns the complete set.
There are other stories that come to mind whose autjhors escape me just now…
Caps for Sale
Stone Soup
The Steadfast Tin Soldier
The Blueberry Pie Elf
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (and her “cures” for all sorts of bad behavior – several books)
The Velveteen Rabbit
Mike Mulligan and his Steamshovel Mary Ann
Dr. Seuss goes without saying!
There a lot more but I don’t have time.
Ah, the memories!
