Whatcha readin’?

To sort of piggy-back on yesterday’s post about what readers want, I’m curious, what do you read?
Do you tend to read in the genre you write or do you kind of go all over the map?
Right now I’m reading a mix of things.
Dead and Alive by Dean Koontz. It’s the third in his Frankenstein trilogy. Good stuff.
Moonwalk by Michael Jackson. His autobiography. Not far in yet but it’s interesting so far.
Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I admit…I’ve been slack with the course, but I’m still with. I will finish, dammit!
I just finished a book, which I won’t name, because I really like the author, but the book was such a disappointment, that well…*sigh* I just can’t talk about it. I’m too upset. Hopefully you haven’t read anything lately that’s had THAT effect on you, but if you have, please share. We can get through this together.
And if you haven’t already, be sure and friend me on Goodreads!
Have a great weekend.

My reading is mostly dictated by the books I review, but of course, I have my favorites: historical fiction, mysteries, thrillers, inspirational romance, and nonfiction about politics, current events, or true crime.
Right now I am reading The Sapphire Flute by Karen Hoover. It’s the first book in a planned YA fantasy series. I like it so far, though I wouldn’t say that fantasy is a favorite genre of mine.
My current WIP is a MG historical.

I am reading “Two for the Dough” by Janet Evanovich, but I’ve been reading it since summer, so I am not sure that really counts. The most reading I do is to my daughter at night, and now that she’s a bit older I’ve been reading her novels that have a little more “body”. We’re currently reading the Hitchhiker’s Guide series (which, oddly enough, I’ve never read). We’re on book 2 right now.

I’m reading “Struck” by Keith Pyeatt http://keithpyeatt.blogspot.com
I won the book in a contest and so far it’s quite good, but taking me a long time to read it between homework assignments!

I am reading ‘Stardust’ by Neil Gaiman.
I saw the movie and have to read the book. If I watch a movie based on a book I have an unsettled/incomplete feeling until I’ve read the book it is based on.
As far as what I read, I love science, health, and nature reference books. I like New Age books.
Even though I write fantasy and romance, I read little of it. I tend to lean more towards non-fiction in my book choices.
Aren’t people weird?

Hi Vanessa, Keep it up, you’ll make it through TAW yet!
I’m always all over the map when it comes to books because I love such a wide variety of things. Lately I’ve been reading my ‘Writing Picture Books’ by Ann Whitford Paul as my ‘homework’. Part of her assignment is to of course read many picture books, so I’ve been doing that. I’ve also been reading some MG historical fiction, the ‘Dear America’ series. I love history and I always learn something from these books. I recently finished ‘Thereby Hangs a Tail’ by Spencer Quinn, which by the way, I found out is Peter Abrahams, who’s been writing mysteries for decades! I had never heard of him before this.

I’m reading a lot of history and political books lately.
The Politiacally Incorrect Book of American History and the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution, both by Kevin R.C. Gutzman
Sarah Palin’s book – I’m about halfway through.
Game Change – Very interesting read – unflattering book about the 2008 Democratic primary and then the presidential race.
Skimming Diana Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes in preparation to read An Echo in the Bone.
And of course the Assyrian and Babylonian Chronicles.
